Dear One,
You can check the inner man regularly to see if you are on track. You can do that by gauging the peace level in your spirit the way a person checks the oil in his car, by reaching way down inside where the oil of My Spirit is inside of you where the presence or absence of peace will be your gauge.
You have experienced occasions when there were problems or unrest in life and also when you have checked the oil inside of you there was no presence of peace. Then you knew that you needed to fight the good fight of faith, praying in intercession in the Holy Spirit. and calling upon the gifts of wisdom and knowledge to give you insight into the reasons behind the spiritual unrest that your spirit perceived.
Remember that the Holy Spirit is the umpire who says whether peace is "out" of you or is "in" you. He will alert you to the need for prayer by the lack of peace in your spirit.
Pay attention to the umpire.
